Analog VLSI integration of massive parallel processing systems / Peter Kinget
Titre : Analog VLSI integration of massive parallel processing systems Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Peter Kinget, Auteur ; Michiel Steyaert, Auteur Editeur : Kluwer Academic Publishers ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-0-7923-9823-3 Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Informatique
Informatique:SystèmesIndex. décimale : 003 Les Systèmes Résumé : When comparing conventional computing architectures to the architectures of biological neural systems, we find several striking differences. Conventional computers use a low number of high performance computing elements that are programmed with algorithms to perform tasks in a time sequenced way; they are very successful in administrative applications, in scientific simulations, and in certain signal processing applications. However, the biological systems still significantly outperform conventional computers in perception tasks, sensory data processing and motory control. Biological systems use a completely dif ferent computing paradigm: a massive network of simple processors that are (adaptively) interconnected and operate in parallel. Exactly this massively parallel processing seems the key aspect to their success. On the other hand the development of VLSI technologies provide us with technological means to implement very complicated systems on a silicon die. Informatique:Informatique, traitement des données:Analyse, conception et évaluation des systèmes informatiquesIndex. décimale : 004.2 Analyse et conception de systèmes, architecture de l'ordinateur, évaluation des systèmes Résumé : Concurrent design, or co-design of hardware and software is extremely important for meeting design goals, such as high performance, that are the key to commercial competitiveness. Hardware/Software Co-Design covers many aspects of the subject, including methods and examples for designing: (1) general purpose and embedded computing systems based on instruction set processors; (2) telecommunication systems using general purpose digital signal processors as well as application specific instruction set processors; (3) embedded control systems and applications to automotive electronics. The book also surveys the areas of emulation and prototyping systems with field programmable gate array technologies, hardware/software synthesis and verification, and industrial design trends. Most contributions emphasize the design methodology, the requirements and state of the art of computer aided co-design tools, together with current design examples. Informatique:SystèmesIndex. décimale : 003 Les Systèmes Résumé : Embedded computer systems use both off-the-shelf microprocessors and application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs) to implement specialized system functions. Examples include the electronic systems inside laser printers, cellular phones, microwave ovens, and an automobile anti-lock brake controller. Embedded computing is unique because it is a co-design problem - the hardware engine and application software architecture must be designed simultaneously. Informatique:Informatique, traitement des données:Analyse, conception et évaluation des systèmes informatiquesIndex. décimale : 004.2 Analyse et conception de systèmes, architecture de l'ordinateur, évaluation des systèmes Résumé : In system design, generation of high-level abstract models that can be closely associated with evolving lower-level models provides designers with the ability to incrementally `test' an evolving design against a model of a specification. Such high-level models may deal with areas such as performance, reliability, availability, maintainability, and system safety. Abstract models also allow exploration of the hardware versus software design space in an incremental fashion as a fuller, detailed design unfolds, leaving behind the old practice of hardware-software binding too early in the design process. Such models may also allow the inclusion of non-functional aspects of design (e.g. space, power, heat) in a simulatable information model dealing with the system's operation.
